The mornings are getting darker. And suddenly getting out of bed feels that little bit harder.

It also makes this the perfect time to talk about sleep maxxing.

Like most wellness trends, sleep maxxing can get complicated quickly.

Sleep trackers. Supplements. Blue-light glasses. Mouth tape. Cooling mattresses. Elaborate nighttime routines.

Some tools may be useful for some people. But before you spend money trying to optimise your sleep, get the basics working for you first.

Because better sleep isn’t only about what you do before bed.

It starts from the moment you wake up.

Here are 10 tiny habits for better sleep that are actually realistic enough to become part of your routine.

1. Start Your Day With Light

One of the best things you can do for tonight’s sleep happens in the morning.

Get outside.

Light is one of the strongest signals for your circadian rhythm - your body’s internal clock that helps regulate when you feel awake and when you become sleepy.

Try this: Get some natural daylight earlier in your day. Take your morning drink outside or combine it with a short walk.

As the seasons change...

This can become harder as mornings get darker.

Don’t overcomplicate it.

Open your curtains when you wake and get outside when daylight becomes available, particularly earlier in the day.

The habit doesn’t need to disappear just because summer does.

2. Keep Your Wake-Up Time Consistent

Your body likes rhythm.

Constantly changing when you wake up can make it harder to maintain a regular sleep-wake schedule.

Try this: Aim to wake at roughly the same time most days, even if you give yourself a little more flexibility at weekends.

3. Move During the Day

Another sleep habit that has nothing to do with bedtime:

Move your body

Walk

Strength train

Stretch

Take the stairs

Do Pilates

You don’t need an intense workout every day. Regular movement is what matters.

And if you spend most of your working day sitting, even small movement breaks are worth building in.

Try this: Add a 10-minute walk to your lunch break or after dinner.

4. Give Your Coffee a Cut-Off

Your morning coffee doesn’t necessarily need to go anywhere. Your 4pm one might be worth looking at.

Caffeine can remain in your system for hours, so having it later in the day may affect your sleep even if you can still fall asleep at night.

Try this: If your sleep isn’t great, experiment with moving your final caffeinated drink earlier.

Notice what changes. You might not need less coffee. You might just need it earlier.

5. Make Nighttime Look Like Nighttime

Modern life makes it very easy to spend the evening under bright lights.

But your body uses light and darkness as signals for when it should be alert and when it should start preparing for sleep.

So as your evening progresses, turn the brightness down.

You don’t need to sit in complete darkness.

Try this: Switch off bright overhead lights and use softer lamps in the hour or two before bed.

A tiny environmental change can become a powerful cue that your day is winding down.

6. Give Yourself a Screen Cut-Off

One minute you’re checking Instagram. The next thing you know, it’s 12:17am and you’re watching a stranger reorganise their fridge.

We’ve all been there.

The issue isn’t only light from your screen. Phones also keep your brain engaged when you’re trying to wind down.

Messages. Videos. News. Work. Notifications.

There’s always something else to look at.

Try this: Create a screen-free buffer before bed.

It doesn’t have to be exactly one hour.

Start with 20 or 30 minutes if that’s more realistic. Put the phone down. Give your brain permission to be bored.

7. Keep Your Bedroom Cool, Dark and Quiet

Your bedroom doesn’t need to look like a luxury wellness retreat.

It needs to help you sleep.

Think:

Cool

Dark

Quiet

Comfortable

Blackout curtains can help if outside light gets into your room. An eye mask can achieve something similar. If noise is the problem, earplugs may be worth trying.

And if you regularly wake because you’re too hot, look at your room temperature, bedding and what you’re wearing to bed.

Try this: Tonight, ask yourself one question:

What in this room could interrupt my sleep?

8. Turn Your Evening Drink Into a Ritual

Herbal tea isn’t a magic sleep potion. But making one can become a useful wind-down cue.

Boil the kettle.

Make your tea.

Sit down.

Stop doing things for ten minutes.

Caffeine-free teas such as chamomile are popular evening choices, but you don’t need to hunt for the perfect “sleep tea”.

Try this: Choose something you enjoy and make it part of your evening routine. Sometimes the ritual matters as much as what’s in the mug.

9. Take Five Slow Breaths

If your body is in bed but your brain is still running through tomorrow’s to-do list, try something incredibly simple.

Slow your breathing down.

You don’t need a 30-minute meditation.

Try five slow, comfortable breaths.

Breathe gently in.

Slowly breathe out.

Let your shoulders drop.

Then repeat.

Try this: Make five slow breaths the last thing you do before settling down to sleep.

It’s free.

It takes less than a minute.

And you don’t need another app to do it.

10. Give Yourself Enough Time to Actually Sleep

This might be the least exciting sleep tip on the internet.

It’s also one of the most important.

Sometimes we’re searching for ways to improve our sleep while simply not giving ourselves enough time to sleep.

One more episode.

Twenty minutes on TikTok.

A few emails.

Getting ready for bed later than planned.

It all eats into the time you actually have available for rest.

Try this: Start with the time you need to wake up and work backwards.

Then protect your bedtime like you would any other appointment.

Sleep shouldn’t get whatever time is left over.

Before You Buy Another Sleep Hack...

Come back to the basics.

Ask yourself:

Am I getting daylight?

Am I moving during the day?

Is my caffeine too late?

Do I have a consistent sleep schedule?

Am I giving myself time to wind down?

Is my bedroom actually comfortable?

Am I going to bed early enough to get the sleep I need?

If the answer to several of those is no, start there before adding another thing to your basket.

That’s sleep maxxing, simplified.

Your Tiny Sleep Reset

Don’t try to introduce all 10 habits tonight.

Start with three:

MORNING

Get outside for daylight.

DAY

Move your body and have your caffeine earlier.

EVENING

Dim the lights and put your phone down before bed.

Do that consistently.

Then add another habit.

The Takeaway

The internet can make better sleep look expensive.

It doesn’t have to be.

Morning light.

Movement.

Earlier caffeine.

Dimmer evenings.

Less scrolling.

A comfortable bedroom.

A few slow breaths.

Enough time in bed.

None of these habits are particularly revolutionary.

But that’s exactly the point.

Before trying to hack your sleep, max out the basics.

Small habits. Better sleep.

How to Lower Cortisol Naturally: 10 Simple Habits to Start With

Discover how to lower cortisol wellness hacks.

But start with the basics.

Your sleep. Your movement. What you eat. Time outside. How much caffeine you’re drinking. And whether your body ever gets a chance to slow down.

You don’t need to change everything at once.

Here are 10 simple places to start.

1. Protect Your Sleep

If there’s one place to start, make it sleep.

Poor sleep and stress can feed into each other: stress makes it harder to sleep, while insufficient sleep can make everyday stress feel harder to manage.

Try this: Keep a fairly consistent sleep and wake time and give yourself enough time in bed to actually get the sleep you need.

2. Get Outside in the Morning

Your cortisol isn’t supposed to stay low all day.

It naturally follows a daily rhythm, generally rising around waking before falling towards the evening.

Morning daylight helps support your circadian rhythm - your internal body clock that influences your sleep-wake cycle.

Try this: Get outside after waking. Combine it with your morning drink or a short walk so it doesn’t become another task.

3. Move Your Body - But Don’t Overdo It

Exercise can be a powerful tool for managing stress.

But more isn’t always better.

Walking, strength training, stretching, yoga and other forms of movement all count.

Try this: If you’re already feeling exhausted and overwhelmed, don’t assume the answer is another intense workout. A walk or gentle stretch is still movement.

4. Eat Regular, Balanced Meals

When life gets busy, proper meals are often one of the first things to disappear.

Then you’re running on coffee, snacks and whatever you can grab.

Keep food simple.

Aim for meals containing protein, fibre-rich carbohydrates, plants and healthy fats rather than chasing the perfect “cortisol diet”.

Try this: Look at your next meal and ask: What’s missing?

5. Take the Walk

Walking deserves its own place on the list because it’s one of the easiest habits to actually maintain.

It gets you moving, can get you outdoors and gives you a break from whatever has been demanding your attention.

No membership. No equipment. No complicated routine.

Try this: Take a 10-minute walk after lunch or dinner.

6. Learn to Use Your Breath

When you feel stressed, notice what happens to your breathing.

It can become quicker and shallower without you even realising.

Slow breathing is a simple tool you can use almost anywhere.

Try box breathing:

Inhale for 4 → hold for 4 → exhale for 4 → hold for 4.

Repeat for a few comfortable rounds. If breath-holding feels uncomfortable, simply focus on a slower, longer exhale instead.

Try this: Use it before a stressful meeting, when you’re feeling overwhelmed or as part of your evening wind-down.

7. Spend More Time Somewhere Green

You don’t need a wellness retreat.

Go to the park.

Walk through the woods.

Sit in your garden.

Have lunch outside.

Spending time in natural environments has been associated with improvements in stress and wellbeing.

Try this: Combine nature with your daily walk. Two habits, one 10-minute slot.

8. Look at Your Caffeine Intake

You don’t necessarily need to give up your morning coffee.

But if you’re feeling jittery, anxious, struggling to sleep or relying on caffeine to get through the day, it’s worth looking at how much you’re having and when you’re having it.

Caffeine later in the day can also interfere with sleep.

Try this: Move your last caffeinated drink earlier and see how you feel.

9. Give Your Brain Less Input

Stress isn’t only about what’s happening in your life.

It’s also worth considering how much your brain is being asked to process.

Messages.

Emails.

News.

Notifications.

Instagram.

TikTok.

Work.

Then more scrolling because you’re “relaxing”.

Try this: Create one screen-free pocket every day - your morning walk, lunch break or the last 30 minutes before bed. Give your brain a chance to be quiet.

10. Build Something Into Your Day That Helps You Slow Down

This doesn’t have to be meditation.

It could be journalling.

Reading.

Prayer.

Stretching.

A bath.

Making a herbal tea.

Sitting outside.

Talking to someone you love.

The important part is having moments when you’re not working, consuming or rushing to the next thing.

Try this: Choose something you genuinely enjoy and give it 10 uninterrupted minutes today.

If You’re Overwhelmed, Start With These 3

Don’t read this article and create another 10-item to-do list.

Start here:

Morning: Get outside for daylight.

Day: Take a 10-minute walk.

Evening: Put your phone down earlier and protect your sleep.

Do those consistently. Then build from there.

Can You Actually “Lower Cortisol Naturally”?

This is where social media can make things confusing.

Cortisol isn’t bad.

It’s an essential hormone involved in your stress response, metabolism, blood pressure, inflammation and sleep-wake cycle.

And having cortisol rise temporarily when you’re stressed or exercising is normal.

So the goal isn’t to keep cortisol as low as possible.

If everyday stress is the issue, habits that support sleep, regular movement, relaxation and your overall wellbeing are sensible places to start.

But persistently abnormal cortisol can also be associated with medical conditions. Lifestyle changes aren’t a substitute for medical assessment if you’re experiencing persistent or concerning symptoms.

The Takeaway

You probably don’t need a complicated “cortisol-lowering protocol”.

Start with what your body already needs.

Sleep.
Daylight.
Movement.
Balanced meals.
Time outside.
Less stimulation.
Moments to slow down.

Choose one thing you can make easier this week.

Then repeat it.

Because supporting your wellbeing shouldn’t become another source of stress.

Small Habits, Big Difference: 10 Wellness Habits Worth Starting

Simple daily wellness habits for better too simple to matter - getting outside in the morning, drinking enough water, taking a walk or putting your phone away before bed - that are worth getting right first.

You don’t need to start all 10 today.

Pick one. Make it easy. Let it become normal. Then build from there.

1. Start Your Day With Sunlight

Before you get lost in messages, emails or your morning scroll, get some natural daylight.

Morning light is an important cue for your circadian rhythm - your body’s internal clock that influences when you feel awake and when you become sleepy later.

Make it easy: Open the curtains as soon as you wake, take your morning drink outside or go for a short walk.

2. Water First, Coffee Second

If coffee is the first thing you reach for every morning, you don’t have to give it up.

Just have some water first.

After several hours asleep without drinking, starting your morning with water is an easy way to begin hydrating for the day.

Make it easy: Pour a glass while the kettle boils or coffee brews.

No elaborate hydration routine required.

3. Eat a Breakfast That Actually Fuels You

Breakfast doesn’t have to be picture-perfect.

If you eat breakfast, focus on making it something that actually keeps you going rather than something that leaves you hungry again an hour later.

Think protein + fibre + something colourful.

Eggs with vegetables and toast. Yoghurt with berries and nuts. Porridge with fruit and seeds.

Make it easy: Instead of asking whether your breakfast is “healthy”, ask: what can I add to make this more balanced?

4. Move Every Day

A workout isn’t the only movement that matters.

Walking.

Stretching.

Pilates.

Taking the stairs.

Ten minutes around the block.

It all counts towards keeping your body moving.

And if you spend most of your day sitting, small movement breaks are an easy place to start.

Make it easy: Attach movement to something already in your day - walk after lunch, stretch while the kettle boils or take a short walk after dinner.

5. Learn One Breathing Technique You Can Actually Remember

You don’t always need an app, meditation class or 30-minute routine to create a moment of calm.

Sometimes you just need your breath.

Try box breathing:

Breathe in for 4 → hold for 4 → breathe out for 4 → hold for 4.

Repeat for a few comfortable rounds.

Make it easy: Use it before a stressful meeting, when your thoughts are racing or whenever you need a minute to reset.

One technique you remember is more useful than 10 you’ve saved on Instagram.

Want to Actually Put These Habits Into Practice?

Knowing what to do is easy.

Making it part of your life is the harder bit.

That’s why we created the 7-Day Glow Reset.

It’s seven days of small, intentional practices with a simple checklist to follow each day.

No detox. No extreme routine. And nothing to “fail”.

Just seven days of putting the basics into practice.

Download the free 7-Day Glow Reset here.

6. Write It Down

Journalling doesn’t have to mean filling three pages every morning.

Five minutes is enough.

Use it to empty some of the thoughts taking up space in your head, reflect on your day or notice what’s actually making you feel good.

Don’t know what to write?

Start here:

What do I need today?

Or at the end of the day:

What felt good today - however small?

Make it easy: Keep your journal somewhere you’ll actually see it.

7. Give Your Brain Some Screen-Free Time

Think about how much information you consume every day.

Emails. WhatsApp. Instagram. TikTok. News. Notifications.

Then the second we have nothing to do... we reach for our phones again.

You don’t have to delete your apps.

Just give your brain some periods where nothing new is coming in.

Make it easy: Choose one phone-free moment each day - your first 20 minutes awake, breakfast, a walk or the last 30 minutes before bed.

8. Make Hydration Something You Actually Enjoy

You don’t need expensive hydration powders or a complicated morning concoction to drink more water.

Plain water works perfectly well.

But if you find it boring, make it something you actually want to drink.

Add lemon.

Fresh ginger.

Mint.

Cucumber.

Fruit.

Make it easy: Keep a bottle or glass somewhere visible and refill it throughout the day.

The best hydration habit is the one that helps you actually drink the water.

9. Make Your Evening Look Different From Your Day

Your body needs cues that the busy part of the day is ending.

That doesn’t require a two-hour nighttime routine.

Start with your environment.

Dim bright overhead lights.

Reduce your screen time.

Put work away.

Take a shower.

Stretch.

Read.

Make a herbal tea.

Make it easy: Pick one thing you’ll repeat every evening as your signal to start winding down.

10. Give Yourself Enough Time to Sleep

We spend a lot of time looking for ways to improve sleep quality while ignoring one of the basics:

Are you actually giving yourself enough time to sleep?

One more episode.

A quick scroll.

Finishing one last task.

Suddenly bedtime is an hour later.

You don’t need to perfect your sleep overnight.

Start by protecting the opportunity to get enough of it.

Make it easy: Work backwards from when you need to wake up and set a realistic bedtime.

Your sleep shouldn’t just get whatever time is left at the end of the day.

You Don’t Need to Do All 10

If you’ve reached this point thinking, Great, another 10 things I need to do, that’s not the takeaway.

Start with three:

Morning - Get some natural daylight.

Day - Move your body.

Evening - Put your phone down and give yourself time to sleep.

Once those feel normal, add something else.

That’s how healthy habits become part of your life rather than another routine you follow for a week and abandon.

Want Me to Make It Even Easier?

I’ve already turned many of these habits into a simple 7-day plan.

The 7-Day Glow Reset starts with small daily anchors before moving through nourishment, your environment, nervous-system practices, energy, self-care and a Sunday reset.

Each day gives you a simple checklist of things to try.

You don’t need to plan it.

You don’t need to do it perfectly.

Just start with Day One.

Download the free 7-Day Glow Reset Here.

The Takeaway

Wellness has become complicated.

There’s always another supplement to take, gadget to buy, routine to follow or hack you’re apparently missing.

But before adding more, come back to the basics.

Get the light.

Drink the water.

Eat the meal.

Move your body.

Take the breath.

Put the phone away.

Get the sleep.

Small habits won’t transform everything overnight.

But repeated often enough, they can make a bigger difference than you think.

Small habits. You don’t need to overhaul your life to feel better.

Sometimes, the smallest habits can make the biggest difference.

A few minutes of morning sunlight. A short walk. Less screen time. A cup of tea before bed.

Simple things that create small pockets of calm throughout your day.

You don’t need to do all eight.

Pick one, make it part of your routine and build from there.

Here are 8 simple daily habits to reduce stress naturally.

1. Get Morning Sunlight

Try to get outside soon after waking.

Morning daylight helps support your circadian rhythm, your body’s internal clock that influences your sleep and wake cycle.

Try this: Take your morning drink outside or add a 10-minute walk to your morning routine.

2. Stretch for Five Minutes

You don’t need an hour-long yoga session.

Five minutes of gentle stretching can give you a moment to slow down while releasing some of the physical tension that builds up from sitting, working and rushing around.

Try this: Stretch while the kettle boils, after waking or when you finish work.

3. Get It Out of Your Head

When your mind feels busy, put it on paper.

Journal for five minutes or write down three things you’re grateful for. It doesn’t need to be deep or beautifully written.

Start with:

What do I need today?

Sometimes simply identifying what you’re feeling can make everything feel a little less overwhelming.

4. Spend Time Somewhere Green

A little time in nature can give your mind a break from screens, notifications and your never-ending to-do list.

You don’t need to escape to the countryside.

Try this: Eat lunch outside, walk through a park or spend 10 minutes in the garden.

Even better? Combine nature with your daily walk.

5. Take a Daily Walk

When your head feels busy, walk it out.

Walking gives you movement, fresh air and a break from whatever has been demanding your attention.

And you don’t need 10,000 steps for it to count.

Try this: Take a 10-minute walk after lunch or dinner. Leave your phone in your pocket and give your brain a break too.

6. Create Screen-Free Pockets

Your brain processes information almost constantly.

Emails. Messages. TikTok. Instagram. News. Notifications.

Give it moments where nothing new is coming in.

Try this: Choose one part of your day to make phone-free - breakfast, your walk, the first 30 minutes after waking or the last 30 minutes before bed.

7. Make a Herbal Tea

It’s not just about what’s in the cup.

Making a warm, caffeine-free herbal tea can become a simple cue that it’s time to slow down.

Chamomile is a popular evening option, but choose something you genuinely enjoy.

Try this: Make your evening tea and actually sit down to drink it - preferably without your phone.

8. Protect Your Sleep

Everything feels harder when you’re exhausted.

Quality sleep supports your physical and mental wellbeing, so make protecting it part of your stress-management routine.

Keep it simple:

Dim the lights. Put your phone down. Watch late caffeine. Keep a relatively consistent bedtime.

You don’t need a perfect nighttime routine - just one your body recognises.

Stack Your Calm

Here’s the easiest way to make these habits stick:

Don’t find eight separate times to do them. Combine them.

☀️ Morning: 10-minute walk outside
Morning light + nature + movement

🧘 Afternoon: Five-minute stretch away from your phone
Movement + less screen time

🌙 Evening: Herbal tea while you journal
Less screen time + reflection + wind-down

Three small moments.

Eight habits suddenly feel much more manageable.

Start With One

If you’re already overwhelmed, don’t turn this article into another to-do list.

Choose one habit that feels easy enough to start today.

Do it consistently.

Then add another.

Because feeling better doesn’t always require a complete lifestyle overhaul.

Sometimes, it starts with 10 minutes.

High Cortisol Symptoms: 30 And what are the signs that it may be out of balance?

Let’s break it down.

What Is Cortisol?

Cortisol is a hormone made by your adrenal glands, which sit just above your kidneys.

It’s often called the stress hormone, but that name doesn’t tell the full story.

Cortisol helps keep your body functioning properly every single day.

It plays a role in:

Waking you up in the morning.

Giving your body energy.

Regulating your blood sugar.

Supporting your metabolism.

Controlling inflammation.

Helping your body respond to physical and emotional stress.

Maintaining healthy blood pressure.

Without cortisol, your body simply wouldn’t work as it should.

The goal isn’t to get rid of cortisol.

The goal is to support your body’s natural rhythm.

Why Does Cortisol Matter?

Cortisol naturally rises and falls throughout the day.

It’s usually highest in the morning to help you wake up and gradually decreases throughout the day so your body can prepare for sleep.

This natural rhythm is completely normal.

Problems can arise when your body is under prolonged stress, poor sleep, illness or other medical conditions that affect how cortisol is regulated.

That’s why looking after your overall wellbeing-not just your stress levels-is so important.

High Cortisol Symptoms: 30 Signs You Shouldn’t Ignore

No single symptom confirms that your cortisol is high, and many of these can have other causes too.

However, if several sound familiar and they’re affecting your day-to-day life, it’s worth paying attention.

Energy & Sleep

Feeling tired even after sleeping.

Struggling to fall asleep.

Waking up during the night.

Feeling wired but exhausted.

Needing caffeine just to get through the day.

Afternoon energy crashes.

Mood & Mental Wellbeing

Feeling anxious more often than usual.

Becoming irritated over small things.

Feeling overwhelmed by everyday tasks.

Brain fog.

Difficulty concentrating.

Poor memory.

Weight & Metabolism

Weight gain around the stomach.

Increased appetite.

Strong sugar cravings.

Finding it difficult to lose weight despite healthy habits.

A rounder-looking face.

Fat collecting around the upper back or neck.

Hormones

Irregular periods.

Missing periods.

Low libido.

Difficulty conceiving.

Skin & Hair

Acne or frequent breakouts.

Hair thinning.

Increased facial hair in women.

Skin that bruises easily.

Cuts or wounds taking longer to heal.

Body

Muscle weakness.

High blood pressure.

Feeling tense or unable to relax.

7 Simple Ways to Support Healthy Cortisol Levels

The good news is that supporting healthy cortisol levels doesn’t have to be complicated.

Small, consistent habits often make the biggest difference.

Get Morning Sunlight

Natural light shortly after waking helps support your body’s natural cortisol rhythm and internal body clock.

Prioritise Sleep

Aim for a consistent bedtime and create an evening routine that helps your body wind down.

Sleep is one of the most important foundations of overall health.

Walk Every Day

Walking supports both physical and mental wellbeing.

It can also help you decompress after a busy day and is one of the easiest habits to build.

Eat Balanced Meals

Including enough protein, fibre and healthy fats throughout the day can help support steady energy levels.

Skipping meals or relying on sugary snacks may leave you feeling more drained.

Make Time to Slow Down

Deep breathing.

Stretching.

Reading.

Journalling.

Prayer.

Quiet time.

Whatever helps you slow down, make space for it regularly.

Be Mindful of Caffeine

Coffee isn’t the enemy, but too much caffeine-especially later in the day-may leave you feeling more anxious or make it harder to sleep.

Listen to how your body responds.

Focus on Consistency

You don’t need a perfect routine.

Healthy habits don’t need to be extreme to be effective.

The small things you do consistently will always matter more than the big things you do occasionally.

When Should You Speak to Your GP?

Many of the symptoms listed above can have different causes and don’t automatically mean your cortisol is high.

If you’re experiencing several symptoms that are persistent, worsening or affecting your quality of life, it’s worth speaking to your GP or another qualified healthcare professional. They can help identify the underlying cause and recommend the most appropriate next steps.

Final Thoughts

Cortisol isn’t something to fear.

It’s a hormone your body needs every single day.

Rather than trying to eliminate stress completely, focus on building habits that help your body recover.

Sleep well.

Move regularly.

Eat nourishing meals.

Spend time outdoors.

Take moments to slow down.

You don’t have to change everything overnight.

At GLWTHEORY, we believe that lasting wellbeing comes from small habits repeated consistently - not chasing perfection.

Feeling Stuck? You have goals, ideas and good intentions. But instead of moving forward, you find yourself waiting.

Waiting for motivation.

Waiting for confidence.

Waiting for the perfect plan.

The problem is, the longer we wait, the harder it becomes to take the first step.

If you’ve been feeling stuck lately, this guide is for you.

Why We Feel Stuck

Feeling stuck isn’t usually a sign that you’re lazy or unmotivated.

More often, it’s a sign that you’re overwhelmed.

When we’re faced with too many choices, too much information or fear of making the wrong decision, our brain often chooses the safest option: doing nothing.

It’s called analysis paralysis.

You spend so much time thinking about the next step that you never actually take it.

The Biggest Myth About Motivation

Most people believe motivation comes first.

In reality, action usually comes first.

Think about the last time you:

Went for a walk.

Finished a workout.

Tidied your room.

Cooked yourself a healthy meal.

You probably didn’t wake up feeling incredibly motivated.

But once you’d started, you almost certainly felt better afterwards.

That’s because action creates momentum.

Waiting for motivation often keeps us stuck.

Taking one small step gives motivation a chance to catch up.

Start Smaller Than You Think

When life feels overwhelming, our instinct is often to think bigger.

“I need a new job.”

“I need to lose weight.”

“I need to change my life.”

Instead, think smaller.

Ask yourself

What’s the smallest step I can take today?

That might be:

Going for a 10-minute walk.

Drinking another glass of water.

Reading one chapter of a book.

Cooking one balanced meal.

Booking the appointment you’ve been putting off.

Sending the email you’ve been avoiding.

Small actions might not feel life-changing.

But they’re often the beginning of real change.

Reset Your Environment

Sometimes the quickest way to reset your mind is to reset your surroundings.

Our environment has a huge influence on how we feel.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, try one of these:

Open the curtains.

Make your bed.

Put your phone away for 30 minutes.

Clear your desk.

Step outside for fresh air.

You don’t need to create the perfect morning or perfectly organised home.

You’re simply creating an environment that makes it easier to move forward.

Stop Comparing Your Journey

One of the fastest ways to feel stuck is to compare your progress with someone else’s.

Social media usually shows the highlight reel.

It doesn’t show the years of consistency, mistakes and small daily habits that came before the success.

Your timeline won’t look like anyone else’s.

And it doesn’t need to.

The only comparison worth making is between who you are today and who you were yesterday.

Your 10-Minute Reset

If you’re feeling stuck today, don’t try to solve everything at once.

Instead, spend the next ten minutes doing just one of these:

Go for a short walk.

Drink a glass of water.

Tidy one small area.

Journal for five minutes.

Stretch your body.

Step outside for some fresh air.

Read a few pages of a book.

None of these actions will change your life overnight.

But they will interrupt the cycle of overthinking and remind your brain that progress is possible.

The goal isn’t to do everything.

The goal is to do something.

Because every small action is a vote for the person you’re becoming.

Final Thoughts

Feeling stuck doesn’t mean you’ve failed.

It doesn’t mean you’ve missed your chance.

And it certainly doesn’t mean you’re incapable of change.

Progress is rarely one giant leap.

More often, it’s a series of small decisions repeated over time.

So if today feels overwhelming, don’t focus on changing your whole life.

Focus on taking the next small step.

Then take another tomorrow.

That’s how momentum is built.

The Wellness absolutely nothing, most people would take it.

The good news?

There is.

It’s called walking.

Walking is one of the most underrated wellness habits available to us. It’s free, accessible and doesn’t require a gym membership, fancy equipment or a perfectly planned routine.

For a long time, I underestimated it.

I thought exercise had to be intense to count. If I wasn’t sweating, lifting weights or leaving a workout exhausted, I didn’t think it was making much difference.

Now I see walking differently.

It’s not just movement.

It’s a daily health tool.

Why Walking Matters

Walking supports almost every system in the body.

Regular walks can help:

Improve cardiovascular health

Support blood sugar regulation

Reduce stress levels

Increase energy

Improve sleep quality

Support digestion

Boost mood and mental clarity

And unlike intense exercise, walking is something most people can do consistently.

The best wellness routine is usually the one you can actually stick to.

The Post-Meal Walk

If there’s one walking habit I would recommend, it’s this:

Walk after meals.

Even 10 minutes can make a difference.

After eating, your body begins breaking down food and absorbing nutrients. A short walk helps stimulate digestion and encourages the body to use glucose more efficiently.

This is one of the reasons walking appears so often in conversations around gut health and blood sugar management.

When food sits heavily in the stomach, digestion can feel sluggish.

Gentle movement helps keep things moving.

If you’ve already read The Glow Starts In The Gut, you’ll know that digestion doesn’t start and end in the stomach. The body relies on a whole chain of processes working together.

A simple walk is one small habit that can help support that system.

Walking For More Than Physical Health

Some of my best ideas arrive on walks.

Some of my clearest thinking happens away from a screen.

Walking creates space.

Space to think.

Space to process.

Space to step away from the constant noise of modern life.

Sometimes the thing we need isn’t another productivity hack.

It’s ten minutes outside.

My Walking Rule

I don’t aim for perfection.

I aim for consistency.

If I can:

Walk in the morning

Walk after a meal

Get outside every day

I know I’m doing something positive for my body.

The goal isn’t to become a marathon runner.

The goal is simply to move.

Final Thoughts

Wellness doesn’t always have to be expensive, complicated or time-consuming.

Sometimes the most powerful habits are the simplest ones.

Before you buy another supplement, download another app or start another challenge, ask yourself:

Have I gone for a walk today?

Because sometimes the habit that’s free is also the one that works best.

Want to build a daily walking habit?

Download the GLWTHEORY Walking Challenge inside the GLWTHEORY Resource Library.

A simple one-page guide designed to help you move more, feel better and stay consistent.

The GLWTHEORY Resource for:

Breaking down food

Absorbing nutrients

Supporting your immune system

Producing important compounds that influence mood and wellbeing

Protecting the body from unwanted bacteria and toxins

Think of it as your body’s processing centre.

If the system isn’t working efficiently, it becomes harder for the body to get what it needs.

Why Gut Health Matters

Many people struggling with:

Bloating

Fatigue

Digestive discomfort

Skin issues

Hormonal imbalances

Often start looking at gut health as part of the puzzle.

While gut health isn’t the answer to everything, it’s one area that can have a surprisingly wide-reaching impact.

What About Leaky Gut?

You’ve probably heard the term “leaky gut” online.

The technical term is increased intestinal permeability.

Your gut lining acts like a barrier, allowing nutrients into the bloodstream while keeping unwanted substances out.

When that barrier becomes compromised, larger particles may pass through more easily, potentially contributing to inflammation and digestive symptoms in some people.

This is still an area of ongoing research, but it’s one reason many practitioners focus on supporting gut function and reducing irritation within the digestive system.

The Role Of Bile

One thing that often gets overlooked is bile.

Bile is produced by the liver and stored in the gallbladder.

Its job is to help break down fats so they can be properly digested and absorbed.

Without adequate bile flow, it becomes harder to absorb important fat-soluble nutrients such as:

Vitamin A

Vitamin D

Vitamin E

Vitamin K

These nutrients play important roles in everything from immunity to skin health.

5 Habits To Support Your Gut

1. Eat More Fibre

Fibre helps feed beneficial gut bacteria and supports healthy digestion.

2. Prioritise Protein

Protein supports repair, recovery and overall health.

3. Walk Daily

Even a short walk can help support digestion.

4. Stay Hydrated

Water is essential for digestion and bowel regularity.

5. Manage Stress

Chronic stress can impact digestion and gut function.

The Bottom Line

If you’re looking to improve your health, don’t overlook your gut.

You don’t need an expensive protocol or dozens of supplements.

Start with the basics.

Eat well.

Move daily.

Manage stress.

Support digestion.

Because sometimes the biggest improvements come from the foundations.

Thanks for reading! more than any supplement, expensive treatment or “miracle” morning routine.

For years, I thought I needed to overhaul my life to feel better. What I’ve realised instead is that how I start my mornings often determines how I feel for the rest of the day.

I’m still figuring things out. I’m currently navigating gut health, hormones, energy levels and trying to become the healthiest version of myself. But these are the habits I’ve found myself coming back to again and again.

Nothing revolutionary. Just simple things that make me feel good.

I Wake Up At The Same Time Every Day

One of the biggest changes I’ve made is trying to wake up at roughly the same time every day.

Not just Monday to Friday.

Every day.

Our bodies love consistency. The more predictable your sleep and wake times become, the easier it is for your body to know when to feel awake and when to feel sleepy.

Do I get it perfect every day?

Absolutely not.

But aiming for consistency has made a noticeable difference to my energy levels.

I Don’t Snooze My Alarm

I’ve found that getting up straight away leaves me feeling more awake than drifting in and out of sleep for half an hour.

The hardest part is the first few seconds.

After that, you’re up.

I Get Outside As Soon As Possible

This is probably the habit that’s had the biggest impact and was the hardest.

Within the first hour of waking, I try to get outside and expose my eyes to natural daylight.

Not through a window.

Outside.

Even if it’s cloudy.

And here’s a tip I learned recently:

Leave the sunglasses at home.

Natural morning light helps send a signal to your brain that it’s daytime, which can support your sleep-wake cycle later in the evening.

I usually combine this with a short walk around my neighbourhood.

Nothing intense.

No step target.

No pressure.

Just movement and sunlight.

No Screens

I try not to start my day by scrolling.

No Instagram.

No emails.

No TikTok.

No checking what everyone else is doing before I’ve checked in with myself.

The truth is, most things can wait.

The moment I reach for my phone first thing, I instantly feel reactive instead of intentional.

My mornings feel much calmer when I give myself a little space before the notifications start.

My Morning Gut Health Ritual

Once I’m back home, I start with warm water, fresh lemon and a splash of apple cider vinegar.

Then I’ll have a cup of bone broth.

It’s become a small ritual that signals the start of the day.

I don’t do it because it’s trendy.

I do it because it makes me feel good.

As someone who’s spent years trying to improve digestion, bloating and overall gut health, I’ve found that creating simple daily rituals works far better than constantly chasing the next wellness trend.

Supplements And Breakfast

After that, I’ll take my morning supplements alongside breakfast.

I’ve learned the hard way that skipping breakfast or surviving on coffee isn’t the vibe.

A protein-focused breakfast keeps me feeling fuller, supports my energy and helps me avoid the mid-morning crash.

Nothing fancy.

Just something nourishing that sets me up for the day.

Something Positive In My Ears

I usually listen to a podcast, a motivational talk or affirmations while I’m getting ready or going for my walk.

Not because I think affirmations magically change your life.

But because the content we consume first thing in the morning matters.

If I’m going to fill my mind with something, I’d rather it be ideas, inspiration and conversations that help me grow.

The GLWTHEORY

The goal isn’t to have a perfect morning routine.

The goal is to create a morning that supports the version of yourself you’re trying to become.

For me, that currently looks like:

✓ Waking up at the same time

✓ No snoozing

✓ Morning sunlight

✓ A short walk

✓ No screens

✓ Lemon water and bone broth

✓ Supplements and breakfast

✓ A podcast or affirmations

Simple habits.

Repeated consistently.

Because the glow isn’t built in one day.

It’s built in the first hour of every day.

I’d love to know: what’s one thing you never skip in your morning routine?

Thanks for reading!
