If there’s one thing I’ve learned on my wellness journey, it’s that the first hour of your day matters more than any supplement, expensive treatment or “miracle” morning routine.
For years, I thought I needed to overhaul my life to feel better. What I’ve realised instead is that how I start my mornings often determines how I feel for the rest of the day.
I’m still figuring things out. I’m currently navigating gut health, hormones, energy levels and trying to become the healthiest version of myself. But these are the habits I’ve found myself coming back to again and again.
Nothing revolutionary. Just simple things that make me feel good.
I Wake Up At The Same Time Every Day
One of the biggest changes I’ve made is trying to wake up at roughly the same time every day.
Not just Monday to Friday.
Every day.
Our bodies love consistency. The more predictable your sleep and wake times become, the easier it is for your body to know when to feel awake and when to feel sleepy.
Do I get it perfect every day?
Absolutely not.
But aiming for consistency has made a noticeable difference to my energy levels.
I Don’t Snooze My Alarm
I’ve found that getting up straight away leaves me feeling more awake than drifting in and out of sleep for half an hour.
The hardest part is the first few seconds.
After that, you’re up.
I Get Outside As Soon As Possible
This is probably the habit that’s had the biggest impact and was the hardest.
Within the first hour of waking, I try to get outside and expose my eyes to natural daylight.
Not through a window.
Outside.
Even if it’s cloudy.
And here’s a tip I learned recently:
Leave the sunglasses at home.
Natural morning light helps send a signal to your brain that it’s daytime, which can support your sleep-wake cycle later in the evening.
I usually combine this with a short walk around my neighbourhood.
Nothing intense.
No step target.
No pressure.
Just movement and sunlight.
No Screens
I try not to start my day by scrolling.
No Instagram.
No emails.
No TikTok.
No checking what everyone else is doing before I’ve checked in with myself.
The truth is, most things can wait.
The moment I reach for my phone first thing, I instantly feel reactive instead of intentional.
My mornings feel much calmer when I give myself a little space before the notifications start.
My Morning Gut Health Ritual
Once I’m back home, I start with warm water, fresh lemon and a splash of apple cider vinegar.
Then I’ll have a cup of bone broth.
It’s become a small ritual that signals the start of the day.
I don’t do it because it’s trendy.
I do it because it makes me feel good.
As someone who’s spent years trying to improve digestion, bloating and overall gut health, I’ve found that creating simple daily rituals works far better than constantly chasing the next wellness trend.
Supplements And Breakfast
After that, I’ll take my morning supplements alongside breakfast.
I’ve learned the hard way that skipping breakfast or surviving on coffee isn’t the vibe.
A protein-focused breakfast keeps me feeling fuller, supports my energy and helps me avoid the mid-morning crash.
Nothing fancy.
Just something nourishing that sets me up for the day.
Something Positive In My Ears
I usually listen to a podcast, a motivational talk or affirmations while I’m getting ready or going for my walk.
Not because I think affirmations magically change your life.
But because the content we consume first thing in the morning matters.
If I’m going to fill my mind with something, I’d rather it be ideas, inspiration and conversations that help me grow.
The GLWTHEORY
The goal isn’t to have a perfect morning routine.
The goal is to create a morning that supports the version of yourself you’re trying to become.
For me, that currently looks like:
✓ Waking up at the same time
✓ No snoozing
✓ Morning sunlight
✓ A short walk
✓ No screens
✓ Lemon water and bone broth
✓ Supplements and breakfast
✓ A podcast or affirmations
Simple habits.
Repeated consistently.
Because the glow isn’t built in one day.
It’s built in the first hour of every day.
I’d love to know: what’s one thing you never skip in your morning routine?
