It’s October 1st.
There are three months left of the year.
And if September was about taking stock of your life, October is where you decide what you’re going to do with what you found.
Welcome to The Great Lock-In.
You’ve probably seen the idea online: use the final months of the year to lock in on your goals. Train harder. Save more. Work on yourself. Disappear for a few months and emerge in January transformed.
I like the idea.
But I don’t think you need to disappear from your life to improve it.
And you definitely don’t need to spend the next 90 days trying to fix everything about yourself.
Your Great Lock-In can be quieter than that.
It can be finally giving your attention to the goal you’ve been talking about all year.
Creating a routine that makes your days feel better.
Getting serious about your finances.
Making a career move.
Taking better care of your body.
Starting the thing you’ve been putting off.
Or simply becoming more intentional about how you’re spending your time.
Because reinvention doesn’t have to mean becoming someone completely different.
Sometimes it’s about finally behaving like the person you’ve been saying you want to become.
And 90 days is enough time to start.
First: Decide What Reinvention Means to You
Before you write another list of goals, forget what everyone else’s Great Lock-In looks like.
This isn’t about having the most productive October.
Ask yourself:
If I reached January feeling genuinely proud of the last three months, what would have changed?
Not what would look impressive.
What would actually make a difference to your life?
Maybe you’d feel stronger.
Maybe you’d finally have savings.
Maybe you’d have applied for the job.
Maybe you’d have launched the idea.
Maybe your home would feel calmer.
Maybe you’d sleep better.
Maybe you’d have stopped giving so much energy to something that doesn’t deserve it.
Write it down.
Then go one step further:
What would the version of me who has made that change be doing differently?
That’s where your 90-day plan starts.
Phase 1 - Audit
Use the answers from September’s life audit. What stays? What goes? What needs attention?
Phase 2 - Choose Your Big Three
Only three priorities for the quarter.
Phase 3 - Define Your 90-Day Outcome
Turn vague intentions into: “By December 31, I want to…”
Phase 4 - Work Backwards
October = foundation.
November = build.
December = maintain/finish.
Phase 5 - Create Your Weekly Non-Negotiables
What 1–2 actions for each priority need to happen most weeks?
Phase 6 - Create Your “Bad Week” Version
Instead of all-or-nothing thinking, establish the minimum version of each goal.
Phase 7 - The Sunday Lock-In
A 10-minute weekly accountability ritual:
What did I say I’d do?
What did I actually do?
What moved forward?
What got in the way?
What are my three priorities this week?
Phase 8 - The Monthly Reset
End of October → review.
End of November → review.
December → finish intentionally rather than trying to cram everything in.
THE GREAT LOCK-IN: MY NEXT 90 DAYS
By December 31, I want to feel:
What I’m leaving behind:
What I’m taking with me:
My Big Three:
By December 31, I will have:
01. __________
02. __________
03. __________
My weekly non-negotiables:
My bad-week minimum:
My Sunday check-in:
What worked? What didn’t? What needs adjusting? What matters most next week?
You don't reinvent yourself by trying to change everything. You reinvent yourself by getting clear on what matters and repeatedly showing up for a small number of things.
